Meet Amiel

Amiel Goldberg — candidate for CT State Representative, District 149

Amiel is a candidate for Connecticut State Representative for the 149th District, serving Greenwich and Stamford. A lifelong Democrat — moderate and cautious on fiscal matters, thoughtful and welcoming on social issues — he brings over 34 years of professional experience in financial and risk management to public service.

Over the past five years, Amiel has had the privilege of serving on Stamford's Board of Representatives. A commitment to constituent service and collaborative problem-solving has defined his tenure — working closely with residents who reached out for help navigating city services, from getting potholes filled to advocating for more traffic enforcement near schools.

Amiel grew up in Columbia, SC and earned his undergraduate degree in Finance and Management Science from the University of South Carolina. He later completed his Master of Science in Financial Risk Management at UConn. His career has included roles as a Treasury Executive at BNY Mellon, Executive Consultant at IBM Global Business Services, Chief Risk Officer at GE Asset Management, and Investment Banker at UBS Stamford. Today, he works as a consultant in financial risk management.

Beyond his professional work, Amiel has been deeply embedded in the Fairfield County community. He has served as Past Treasurer of the United Jewish Federation of Stamford, New Canaan & Darien; Past Vice President of Temple Sinai Stamford; Past Board Member of the Stamford JCC; and Past Treasurer of the Stillmeadow School PFO — among many other roles.

Amiel is married to Kirsten Hohmann, an internist at Stamford Health Medical Group and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University. They have two daughters. Emma recently earned her master’s degree in Epidemiology from Tulane University and is preparing to begin a two‑year fellowship. Zoë is a rising senior at the University of Rochester, where she is studying Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. Both daughters are proud graduates of the magnet high school, the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering (AITE), in Stamford.
